Week 1 Review

As it happens, at the time of the creation of the blog, Week 1 on Yahoo Fantasy Football (termed as YFF in the future) is already over. It was not until it was over that I decided to create the blog so it only makes sense that it is over. Well anyway, there is no point in going over player picks and other good stuff for Week 1 as it does not affect/change anything whatsoever (unless you are a time traveler, in which case I will post Week 1 picks in exchange for your time machine).

What I can do however, are share my after thoughts and early predictions for next week (mainly notable points):

  • Arsenal just did not look like a team capable of competing for a top four finish. It is, however, very early to say anything. Gervinho showed a lot of potential before getting sent off and Ramsay will probably do better in a more attacking role - which should be his area once Wilshere is back from injury. Koscielny was fantastic - surprisingly enough, atleast for me.
  • Liverpool looked fantastic in the first half but their midfield lost it in the second. Regardless, Charlie Adam did almost everything for them and although, Downing hit the crossbar once, he wasn't as involved in their game plan. Adam over Downing any day.
  • Wes Brown did really well for Sunderland. Apart from him and the magnificent goal by Larrson, there doesn't seem to be much value there except maybe Sessegnon(8.41).
  • Formica had a good debut for Blackburn, scoring in the loss against Wolves. Unfortunately for Blackburn, Fletcher and Ward were fantastic for Wolves - look out for them in the future weeks.
  • Shay Given sparkled against Fulham and yet again proved why he is considered a top class keeper. Keeping to keepers, David De Gea didn't have as spectacular a premier league debut as Michel Vorm for Swansea but he still looked solid in goal and should remain Fergie's No. 1 choice. Vorm was absolutely fantastic for Swansea at the Etihad stadium and we hope to see more of that from him.
  • QPR got a beating from Bolton but the key man, Taarabt didn't do so bad - he didn't do very well either. I didn't see the match but looking at his fantasy returns, he did not prove to be worth it after all.
  • Ashley Young, on the other hand, did very well for Manchester United against West Brom and we can expect to see more of that as the season unfolds. He is a bit expensive on YFF though.
  • Oh and 'Kun' Aguero! Brilliant and mesmerizing. We can only think that his performance was a glimpse of what is in store and he has potential to be this season's fantasy pick of the season!
  • Oh and did I mention that Chelsea look miserable, although Torres seems to be getting his form back so that is definitely a good sign for them.
That's all for now, but as we progress into the season, I will eventually get better at it and probably change the format a bit because I don't like it as much.
